Majority of Wisconsin Supreme Court Justices endorse Judge Susan Crawford

Majority of current Wisconsin Supreme Court Justices trust Susan Crawford to continue their progress and fight to protect the constitutional rights and freedoms of all Wisconsinites

MADISON, Wis. – The majority of current Wisconsin Supreme Court Justices have endorsed Judge Susan Crawford to be the court’s next justice, citing her decades of experience, commitment to upholding the law and constitution, and proven record of fairness and impartiality. Current Justices Ann Walsh Bradley, Rebecca Dallet, Jill Karofsky, and Janet Protasiewicz have all officially endorsed just days after Judge Crawford announced her candidacy earlier this week.

“I’m honored to have the trust of Justices Ann Walsh Bradley, Rebecca Dallet, Jill Karofsky, and Janet Protasiewicz. Together, they have decades of experience of service to our state and an immense commitment to delivering fair and impartial justice,” said Judge Susan Crawford. “Their historic support so early in this race shows just how much is at stake. We can’t go back to the days of a court guided by extremism and partisanship. Like them, I am deeply committed to fairly and impartially protecting the rights and freedoms guaranteed by our constitution. I’m proud to have earned their endorsements for my candidacy.”

Justice Ann Walsh Bradley: “Making the decision to retire after three terms on the court was difficult, but knowing we have someone as qualified, decent, and exceptional as Judge Susan Crawford running for this seat gives me so much hope for the future of the court. Judge Crawford understands every facet of the law and she has dedicated her career to being a fair and impartial judge.”

Justice Rebecca Dallet: “As a prosecutor, private-practice attorney, and now as a Circuit Court Judge, Judge Susan Crawford has always fought to uphold the law and our constitution. As we see unprecedented attempts to attack the justice system and erode faith in our institutions, we need a justice who is fair, honest, and responsible – that’s why Judge Susan Crawford has my full support to be our next Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice.”

Justice Jill Karofsky: “I’ve had the privilege of working closely with Judge Susan Crawford and serving alongside her as a Circuit Court Judge. Whether it's as a judge, prosecutor, or attorney, I’ve always admired her talent, compassion, and commitment to public service. She brings an immense understanding of the criminal justice system and has worked to protect victims, improve public safety, and uphold our laws her entire career. I can’t think of anyone better suited to join us on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.”

Justice Janet Protasiewicz: “Wisconsinites have made their voices heard: They believe in a Wisconsin Supreme Court that values fairness and impartiality over partisan extremism and personal political agendas. Today, we’re finally delivering on that promise and making decisions rooted in the law and our constitution – we can’t risk going backward. I’m proud to endorse Judge Susan Crawford because I know she shares our belief in a justice system that gives everyone a fair shot, protects our most basic rights, and holds people accountable."

Judge Crawford’s career began as an Assistant Attorney General with the Wisconsin Department of Justice, where she took on some of the state’s toughest criminal cases, holding violent criminals accountable and enforcing our laws. After serving as a prosecutor for nearly a decade, she continued her public service in leadership positions at multiple state agencies, including the Department of Corrections and Department of Natural Resources, before being named chief legal counsel to the governor.

Following her service in state government, Judge Crawford became a private practice attorney, where she protected voting and workers’ rights, and represented Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin to defend access to reproductive health care. In 2018 she was elected to the Dane County Circuit Court where she has presided over homicide, sexual assault, and domestic violence cases, among others.
